As a recent convert to wet shaving, I started out with a boar brush, which wasn’t a very good experience. While I liked using the double edge safety razor (an old gillette purchased at an auction), the brush wasn’t living up to the wet shaving hype. Badger brushes, supposedly the one essential thing, seemed too expensive. Then I came across this little beauty, and my shaving experience changed. It’s superb, and I will never use anything but a badger brush again. This particular model keeps its hair, retains moisture well, is soft on the face, and in general is an excellent brush. The price makes it phenomenal. The stand is cheap plastic, but I didn’t buy it for the stand. I’d buy this brush again in a heartbeat.
I gave this brush 5 stars shortly after I bought it in early 2007 but by mid-2008 the handle came off. I was able to expoxy it back on but even a relatively inexpensive brush from a company with such a good reputation should not lose it’s handle. Still a great brush but obviously not assembled to last.
The workmanship is incredible and the quality is outstanding. Omega brush co. and Perfect Beauty really make this a fantastic bargain that is hard to match, let alone beat. The hair itself is densely packed and firm enough for both soaps and creams, and even though the brush is trimmed (it is a pure badger brush) it is as soft as some of the best badger brushes.
I looked online for a very long time about purchasing a brush that would work and last. I read things about the boar hair brush vs. the badger hair brushes. I found the badger hair is supposed to be softer and helps retain more water to help with an even lather. This brush I have owned for over 8 months and is perect. I really recommend purchasing a stand for it because if the brush stands up on the holder water stays on the bristles and can damage the brush over time. I have had no issues with my brush, the hairs are still intact, and I use this every single day. perfect brush for me!
For a new wet shaver such as myself this brush is an improvement if you’ve begun wet shaving with a boar hair brush. I can’t say if it is the best deal out there because this is the first badger hair brush I’ve used. Only a very few hairs have broken when I first began using the brush. None of the hairs have broken since. This brush does retain water well which makes for a wet lather. Recommended if you’re ready to move to the next level.
